It’s been several years since I developed and printed my own film photographs. I think I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the process. Digital makes everything so much easier – and I don’t mean that in a “cheapened” way as some film photography enthusiasts may say. No, digital has helped photography, I believe; it allows us to more readily actualize our creative concepts and take better control of what we are shooting, so that the focus is on the subject matter rather than the process. But there is something to be said about focusing on the process as well, I think. I’m trying again with film photography and going back through negative development and printing positives and tearing them up and starting over, and I’m realizing that the patience that it teaches, and the skill and craft and attention it requires, and the emphasis on making sure that you get the moment “right” when you close the shutter because you can’t just click away endlessly – all of these things help in creative development. I hope it never becomes a lost art.

Anyway, here are a few prints that I scanned in this morning from a roll I developed last night. Some could have used a touch more development time [or a tad better cropping job], but they are what they are. And I kind of like them for that.
